   아우스테를리츠와 워털루에 시체를 높이 쌓아라.

   땅속에 파묻어라 일을 하련다 --

   나는 풀이다, 모든 것을 덮는다.

 

   게티스버그에도 높이 쌓아라. 이쁘레와 베르뎅에도 높이 쌓아라.

   땅속에 파묻어라, 일을 하련다.

   이 년, 십 년 지나, 손님들은 차장에게 --

   여기가 어디오?

   우린 지금 어디 있소?

 

   나는 풀이다

   Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo,

   Shovel them under and let me work-

   I am the grass; I cover all.

      

   And pile them high at Gettysburg

   And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun.

   Shovel them under and let me work.

   Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:

   What places is this?

   Where are we now?

 

   I am the grass.
